I remember first starting my fitness journey a year or so ago and all I could think of was being skinny. I didn’t care how I got there, I was determined to just be skinny. I tried Weight Watchers first and I hated it. There were all these rules I had a hard time following and when I went to the meetings I just didn’t feel like I could relate to anyone there. I was sitting at work eating a pizza worth like 12 points one day when a girl I worked with asked me what the hell I was doing. I told her that after I had this pizza I would have 10 points left for rest of the day and I would be completely fine. She looked at me and shook her head. You can’t be healthy if you eat pizza and nothing else. She was tall and fit looking so I figured I would take her advice. The next week I quit Weight Watchers and got a gym membership.

Once I started going to the gym I started to understand why having a positive relationship with food can make a world’s difference. I would go to the gym and be exhausted when I came back after doing very little at the gym. I couldn’t maintain energy through out my workout and it made it all the more difficult to want to go back the next day. Once I changed the way I looked at food and changed what I was putting in my body, the gym became a different experience. My muscles had energy to work and I could push myself to workout in way’s I never thought I could.

Okay, okay, so I’m sure you don’t want to hear my life story but here is the punchline for this post: You can’t half-ass being healthy. You might get skinny by not eating all those calories but you wont be fit. You might build a bit of muscle going to the gym all the time but if you don’t eat right you’ll never reach your true potential. I found I got the best results when I did a lifestyle-overhaul.

Now we all know life can get in the way sometimes of the life style you want. It’s not an excuse though and whats counts is that you keep trying. I love Greco pizza a lot, and sometimes I’ll have a week that it’s all I want to eat. Being healthy comes with determination and hard work. If skipping the gym and turning down a piece of pizza were easy, I don’t know if I would have this blog ! 🙂

    I make sure I have a goal. Take it one day at a time and I don’t deprive myself.
